Where Teamwork Science Means Work Results
Trusted by 2.5+ million professionals across 190 countries for 40+ years, the Team Management Profile (TMP) shows you how teams actually work together and how to make them more effective.
The TMP is a work-focused profile tool that reveals the specific work preferences, team roles and collaboration patterns that drive team performance. Get the clarity you need to build high-performing teams.
The Challenge
Most teams’ struggles are linked to lack of awareness – members who don’t understand how each person prefers to work, make decisions or organise themselves.
Traditional personality tests label people, but they don’t tell you what to do about friction. You’re left with insight that doesn’t translate to action.
TMP is different. It’s designed specifically for teams at work, revealing how preferences affect productivity, collaboration and results.
How TMP Works
The Four Work Preference Dimensions (RIDO)
TMP maps preferences across four critical dimensions known as RIDO, revealing how people prefer to work together.
Relationships
Do you prefer to relate in Extroverted or Introverted ways?
Information
Do you prefer Practical or Creative approaches to gathering information?
Decisions
Do you lean towards Analytical or Beliefs-based decision-making?
Organisation
Do you prefer Structured or Flexible work styles?
The 8 Team Roles
These four dimensions combine to reveal 8 distinct Team Roles:
Creator-Innovator
Generates ideas and explores possibilities
Explorer-Promoter
Pursues opportunities and gains support
Assessor-Developer
Analyses options and develops solutions
Thruster-Organiser
Drives action and organises execution
Concluder-Producer
Delivers outputs and meets deadlines
Controller-Inspector
Ensures quality and manages detail
Upholder-Maintainer
Supports values and maintains standards
Reporter-Adviser
Gathers information and provides counsel
Why This Matters
Every team needs all eight roles to function at high performance. The TMP shows you:
Role Allocation
Who naturally fills which roles – so you can allocate work strategically
Gap Analysis
Where you have gaps – so you know what’s missing and can build with that in mind
Concentration
Where you have concentration – so you can address biases
Adaptability
How to adapt – so team members can flex into needed roles when required
Result: Teams that understand their makeup make better decisions, communicate more effectively and deliver consistent results.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is TMP different from personality assessments like Myers-Briggs or DiSC?
TMP focuses specifically on work preferences – how people prefer to approach tasks, make decisions, gather information and organise their work in a professional context. Unlike personality assessments such as MBTI or DiSC, which measure whole-of-life personality traits viewed as stable and fixed, TMP measures preferences specifically at work. Work preferences can evolve across different roles and organisations, making TMP more actionable: insights translate directly to team situations, the focus is on collaboration and team building rather than personality typing, and no one gets labelled or pigeonholed.
Can TMP be used for recruitment or hiring decisions?
No. TMP is designed for development, not selection. It’s a tool for helping existing teams understand each other and work more effectively together. It should not be used for hiring, promotion or any pre-employment screening.
How long does it take to complete the TMP questionnaire?
Most people complete the online questionnaire in 20-30 minutes. The questionnaire is self-paced and should be followed by a debrief session to explain results, led by a TMP-accredited practitioner.
What’s included in the 2-year TMS Global respondent platform access?
You receive access to interactive tools, personal development resources, team collaboration tips, e-books and more. This extends well beyond your initial report to support continuous development over time.
Can teams complete TMP remotely?
Yes. The TMP questionnaire is online and can be completed from anywhere. Team debrief sessions can be facilitated virtually or in-person, depending on preference and circumstances.
Is TMP validated and scientifically credible?
Yes. TMP was reviewed by the British Psychological Society and is backed by 40+ years of research. It meets rigorous psychometric standards for validity and reliability, and has been validated across 683,000+ responses in 202 countries.
What happens after my team completes TMP?
Most teams participate in a facilitated debrief session of 2-4 hours, led by an accredited TMS Global practitioner. This session helps the team understand their collective Team Role profile, identify strengths and gaps and develop strategies for improved collaboration.
How much does TMP cost?
Pricing varies based on volume, delivery format and whether you’re working with a TMS Global practitioner or pursuing accreditation. Contact us for a tailored quote based on your needs.
Can I become accredited to deliver TMP in-house?
Yes. Many organisations choose to accredit internal HR, L&D or OD professionals to deliver TMP across their teams. This provides cost efficiency at scale and builds internal capability. Accreditation includes training, ongoing support and lifetime membership in the global TMS Global practitioner community with no annual renewal fees.
